On March 21, 2020, the Seattle Times published an article focusing on small businesses and the effects that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on businesses in Seattle. The article, entitled As Coronavirus Freezes Economy, Small Businesses Hope to Hibernate. The Seattle Times contacted Bush Kornfeld partner, Jay Kornfeld, as well as from University of Washington professor Thomas Gilbert, Seattle restauranteur Ethan Stowell, and Vertical Word’s Tami Johnston, for their insights and thoughts about the issues. Based upon his monitoring of businesses globally, Jay suggests that businesses plan for a minimum of a 90 day interruption. During this time, Jay suggested that businesses begin conversation with their creditors, including their landlords and secured creditors.
